Camtasia Video Tutorial on The Moving Earth

Creation of the Materials

I made the material using a power point presentation where it consists of animations, pictures and main information from the text. I used movement animation from the animation pane where I made the earth move around the sun to let students know how our earth actually revolve around the sun and in which direction so that they can remember it for a longer term. The process to make the power point presentation is somewhat similar to my previous ppt. The new things I used while creating this material is the camtasia studio 8. If I tell you what Wikipedia says, “camtasia is a software suite, created and published by TechSmith, for creating video tutorials and presentations directly via screencast, or via a direct recording plug-in to Microsoft PowerPoint. Audio or other multimedia recordings may be recorded at the same time or added separately from another source.  Camtasia studio is the best all-in-one screen recorder and video editor. We can record our screen; add video effects, transitions and many more.”

In the camtasia studio, first of all we have to screen record the ppt and our voice over the ppt. The video will be automatically appearing in the studio where we need to edit. During edition, we can cut out the parts where we have made mistakes while delivering the lesson and we can also insert transition slide wise. We can even add text and images in the video. Even for people who have never used video editing software before, Camtasia is easy to learn.

How and when to use?

We can use this material from lesson development till the lesson input. We can either let children watch the video in the class or let them watch it from home. All the information about the topic is clearly mentioned in the video including the explanation with voice over. It would be easier for students to learn from the video rather than teaching them from the textbook with black and white pictures to demonstrate. They will understand better when they see real pictures of how our earth looks while demonstrating the day and night version of it. I think it is very important for the learners to see the real pictures of anything they learn about. It will enhance their cognitive understanding of the main idea from the topic if they get confused with the sentences or points.

Activity

1.      Children can watch the video carefully.

2.      Write down the definition of different days when the earth revolves around the sun.

3.      Then they have to jot down the key words which will help them to write a summary on the topic.

4.      Finally they have to come to the next class where they will have present the their work to the class.

Content-based Material: Natural and Man-made Changes

Topic: Natural and Man-made Changes

Class Level: V

Subject: Science

 Creation of the material

The material is a power point presentation on the topic natural and man-made changes. It consist of content based information organized slide wise in the ppt. I also browsed some critical information on the topic so that students get more information about it. I made it using pictures and animations to make is attractive for the students. I kept the animation of each sentence or points on click as it would be easier for me as a designer to do the voice over accordingly and for students as a learner or reader to press it whenever they finish looking the slides where they can wait until they are able to get a concept of the main content. Using pictures is a good way to visually represent the main idea to the students. They will be able to remember it for a long time.

When and How to use it?

We can use it during the lesson input and it contains more a main information from the text as well as from the browser. After giving the general instructions to the students, we can just go through the slide to teach them the main content of the topic. This will help children to get the main concept of the topic as we are using a different tool to teach them not just reading from the text. The examples and pictures are very realistic which will help them to improve their affective domain. This will happen when they see the similar things around their surrounding where they will be able to identify the natural and man-made changes. They will be also able to differentiate or distinguish between the things they see into natural and man-made changes.

Content based Material: Power Point Presentation on 2-D Shapes

Topic: Identifying and describing 2-D shapes

Class: 1

Subject: Mathematics

 

Creation of the material

I used power point presentation to create the content based material on this topic. I used different colored shapes to let students identify and understand the description of the shape. Colorful designs will attract children’s interest in learning. I also used animation to the description and the shapes so that they don’t get confused with many shapes at last. Then I used pictures of different shapes to let children identify the shapes and name it correctly. Mental imagery is an effective learning strategy and that stimulating students to do so, rather than focusing on the words only, may enhance their understanding of the content.

How to use?

Children can look at the power point presentation carefully and learn to identify and describe the 2-D shapes they see in there as there is voice over in the ppt which explains everything about the shapes. They can write down what they learned from the power point presentation. If they didn’t understand, then they can revisit the ppt whenever they wish to as it will be access to everyone who has link. Teacher can also use the ppt to teach the topic on 2-D shapes using a projector and also give activities from the ppt.

When to use it?

If we are going to teach this topic in the real classroom, we can use the ppt during lesson input where they can experience a new learning material. Through this ppt, they can understand much better as they are exposed to new learning material and the colorful designs will obviously attract their interest and attention. As there is visual representation of shapes in the ppt, they can remember the lesson for a longer term.

Activity 1

After they have watch the ppt, they are going to write the names of the shape they remember from the ppt as well as they can draw each shape accordingly.

Activity 2

At the end of the ppt, there is a table with shapes where the children will have to copy down the table from the ppt, and then they will write down the number of edges and corners of the shapes given in the table.

Types of Weather

 Topic: Types of weather

Class: II

Subject: English 

Name of the material: PPT on types of weather.

Creation of the material

Ihave collected all the learning materials which include graphic organizer such as images, audio on the topic different types of weather.To  make the presentation I have used only one slide in which I added other slide later on the top of the first slide.

 In order have a smooth transaction of my slides; I have to be careful while adding animation to each slide of my presentation. I have used a different animation to the description for the each types of weather. Not only did I use pictures to make my presentation but also used GIF in order to make the presentation more interactive.

While inserting image, I have remove the background of the picture so that my picture become more realistic. In order to remove the background of the picture, first we have go to insert option, click to the picture option on the left corner and then we can select the picture and click insert. Finally we can click on the option, “remove background”.

While making animation on each of the transaction, I have adjusted my descriptions by adjusting each line on the animation pane. Finally I have inserted background music and adjusted it to the required volume.

Where and how to use the material?

The teacher can use the material starting from the introduction where it will give students a clear understanding of different types of weather till lesson development. Let them  note down some keys points so that they can use it during the learning activity. 

Since teaching and learning in the classroom become tedious, it would be more interesting if teacher integrate teaching and learning in different ways which make learning more fun and meaningful. I have created a ppt on the topic  “Types of weather”. Student learn less when the teacher teach the lesson only from the given text but where as if teacher use power point presentation with animations, the learning will take place in a better ways. I have planned the lesson using images, sound and power point presentation in order to make learning more interactive.

Content Based Material.

 

Name of the content-based material: Addition board

Class: 1

Topic: Adding 1 digit number

Creation of the Content based material

I have used the idea of addition box to create the material naming it as addition board. Here, we are going to use counters to add one digit number which are 1 to 9. So, I tried to make addition board with a rectangle shape and two cylinder shapes to make the hole for the counters. I made counters from small circles. Then, I used animation to where I added motion path down to let the counters get down the board as shown in the ppt. In this case I am adding 3 and 2 using the addition board.

Where and how to use the material?

We are going to use the material during lesson development under teaching of the main content. It will help students to understand how one digit numbers are added using counters visually and mentally.

This particular content based teaching and learning material will help students who have cognitive, intellectual disability and student with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The TLM helps those children to optimize their learning experiences by exploring techniques such as using visual representation, pictures and playing games related to the subject. It generates communication skills when they read out the numbers to their friends and boost their confidence as well.

It will benefit students from various learning techniques. As students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder cannot remain still for a longer period of time causing troubles in classroom management, teacher can use the material to make them engage in the learning activities. This material can bring all children attentions as it is easy. It increases child’s memory capacity, and helps with fast logical and problem –solving.

Learning Activity

1.      Students will be divided into groups.

2.      Then they will be provided with set of questions of addition.

3.      They have to solve the question by drawing the addition board and counters as the teacher taught step by step.

 Introduction 

Hello everyone, my name is Sonam Choden and I study in Paro College of Education. I am in final year 8th semester. I joined the college in the year 2017 through government scholarship. Its been almost 4 years. I completed my high school from Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School, Thimphu. I took commerce stream and dreamt of going to Gedu College of business studies but I ended up landing  here. At first, as I have never dreamt of becoming a teacher, I didn't like this profession at all but as the time passed and as I started learning about the teaching and how children learn, I felt that this is what I want to do in my life. I am just excited to graduate from here and go to the field to experience the life of a teacher.

Talking about my family, my family consist of 5 members including me and my two younger brothers. My father works in the arm force and my mother is a housewife. My first younger brother completed his board exam this March and I wonder how he will get through. My youngest brother just started his pre-primary school this year. I  feel that as a eldest sister, I will be having so many responsibilities as soon as I graduate and get employed. That's what a cycle of life is and I am waiting for the adventures that are yet to come.

If I talk about my hobbies and interest, I love to play games especially cricket. I have played many national tournaments and club tournaments till 2019. I couldn't continue after this pandemic. My passion for this game will never end and if I ever happen to get a chance to teach my students after being in service, I would love to do it.  I also like to play other games such as basketball and volleyball. I have also participated in many games activities in college as well. 

My strengths are hard working, self motivating and dedicated to my work. I have to finish the work that I have started. While playing games or while studying, I usually tend to motivate myself saying that I can do it and I have to finish it. I think I have inherited this strengths from my mother and I look up to her. My weaknesses are I feel uncomfortable if I leave my work at middle and my mind is not at peace at all. I feel nervous while doing presentation if people keep on interrupting me. I am not able to say what I want to say. My mind goes blind.  

My short term goal is to get a job and help my parents to do expenses for my younger brother and my long term goal is to become a responsible  person and a person with good personality. My parents have gone through a lot and done a lot for me and I want to let them stay peacefully hereafter. To become a responsible person, I know I have to work hard for my family. I want to become a independent woman who is strong enough to face any kind of challenges or difficulties. I want to make my journey of life worth it.
